The industry is restructuring as the market continues to grow rapidly. Japanese trailer hitch covers makers are joining more collaborative ventures in Europe to build on their existing presence.  The light commercial vehicle market in Western Europe has grown rapidly during the 1990s and many producers enjoyed a record year in 2001. The market has proved an attractive target for Japanese van makers and although the wave of direct imports that built up during the first half of the decade appears to have peaked, Japanese producers are now consolidating their presence by establishing a growing number of joint ventures.
