I was

October 14, 2008 on 9:41 pm | By admin | In Finance :: Tax

writing an article yesterday, and I came across the information regarding 401k contribution limits.  Is $15,500 per year really enough?  My brother was telling me today that according to Social Security, something like 98% of Americans who are retired are not able to make it without their Social Security benefits supplementing their income.  Well, guess what?  I’m not stupid enough to believe that Social Security will be around by the time I hit 65, so that means I have to make it all on my own savings.  Which also means, I need to save more than the previous two generations that came before me.  So, is $15,000 really enough to do that?

The tax administrating properties of the local government

September 29, 2008 on 2:45 pm | By admin | In Finance :: Tax

Property tax administration is the responsibility of local government, where the authority of the department is limited to assisting local government units in making property tax assessments that are fair and in compliance with the law. Property tax is levied on homes on a municipal basis in two parts: for the one who lives in the house, and for the owner of the house, and when one has a rental home, they should only pay the living part of the tax. Assessed value is triple what it was, the levy was not affected, so tax rates were cut by two-thirds.

Fixed Mortgages and Tax Lien Properties

April 27, 2008 on 10:40 am | By admin | In Finance :: Tax

For many home buyers, the only real decision they have to make is whether to have a 15 or 30 year fixed mortgage rate? Early completion of a mortgage is important for those of use that leave buying tax lien until later in life. In a situation as important as this time needs to be spent considering all the available options. Home buyers looking into this need to be assured their monthly payments will not increase.

It is not uncommon to see lenders offering deals that are too good to be true. Interest rates remain the same throughout the life of the loan for 15 year fixed rate mortgages. There are no hidden costs involved with this type of plan which is great for many people that want a regular monthly payment. Both my wife and I decided to research fixed rate mortgages when we started looking at homes for sale.

Our aim was to pay of the mortgage as soon as we could without getting into trouble with high monthly payments. It became obvious that we had to look at fixed rate mortgages over a longer period and not just 15 year plans. The problem was that we weren't very happy about having a mortgage close to when we both retired so it was our hope a 15 year fixed mortgage rate would still be available to us. We were worried about the emphasis placed on early completion of the mortgage.

Don’t be surprised if your Philadelphia tax lawyer has to ask one or two personal questions - the rates vary according to whether you’re single or not, and whether you have dependents. Your age may also affect your taxes. Don’t lie about your age to your Philadelphia tax lawyer - it’s not worth it.
