Worm Farms

August 23, 2008 on 9:41 pm | By admin | In Home :: Gardening

Earwigs are often unwelcomed visitors in peoples' homes. Unfortunately, they are unwelcomed guests in many worm farms as well. These pests are often mistaken for cockroaches because they look somewhat similar. They are attracted to places that are damp, so it is no surprise that they would find your bins so appealing.

Although earwigs have a set of a kind of pincers, they are apparently harmless to your worms. They pose more of a threat to any food that is in the bins and any plants that they may come into contact with.

It seems that though earwigs may have some beneficial qualities, it is best to rid your bins of them as soon as you can. The good news is though, word is they are fairly easy to catch.

A good choice for me

July 24, 2008 on 9:44 pm | By admin | In Home :: Gardening

I am not very good at choosing mechanical things and so I usually take advice before I do it. Last year I needed to replace my lawnmower because the old one simply was not doing the job anymore. I did not know which one to choose and so I decided to go online and see what was available, and after looking at several websites I decided to buy a Scotts lawnmower. It has really done the business as far as I’m concerned because my lawn now looks absolutely brilliant.

Keeping privacy

If there is one thing that is important to me it is keeping a sense of privacy in my garden and it is due to this fact that I decided to install a vinyl privacy fence a few months ago when I did to some redesign work in the garden in general. It was not cheap but I am really glad that I went ahead and did it because now I feel much more relaxed when I sit out in the garden during the day or even in the evening.

The lightweight touch

I am not very strong and therefore I really do need to choose my gardening implements very carefully. Because of this I decided to buy a Lightweight Cordless Lawnmower last summer because I had heard that they were very easy to use and very easy to maneuver. I was not sure if I had made the right decision at first, but now that I have used it for a while I know that it was definitely the right decision to have made, because it has made mowing the lawn much easier than it used to be when I had to use a bulky old petrol lawnmower.

Reel lawn mowers for less noise

June 14, 2008 on 9:43 pm | By admin | In Home :: Gardening

Staying in the vicinity of a hospital, I like to be careful as regards not creating too much of a noise nuisance. I cannot control what others do but I would like to think that I am doing my bit in trying to create a less noisy outdoors. It was actually keeping this thought in mind that I invested in one of those good quality Reel Lawn Mowers. It certainly didn’t come cheap considering it has no engines but I wanted the best. And I am enjoying mowing my lawn with it. It requires no tune-ups, no gas, no oil and is very low-maintenance. Since my mower is on the expensive side, it comes with a self-sharpening mechanism. So, even the aspect of sharpening the blades is taken care of. The mower does not make any noise which is good for the area and besides it gives a great work-out to my arms!

Portable greenhouses are the real deal

February 18, 2008 on 1:41 pm | By admin | In Home :: Gardening

I am a great believer in being able to make things as simple as possible, and one of the best ideas that have come across in recent years is that of Portable Greenhouses, because they are very easy to setup in the first place, and then if you want to move them to another part of the garden they are very easy to take down, move, and then be able to start growing plants in a different location within a matter of hours. You really cannot beat this type of portability, and that is why I only have two of these in my garden and it is everything I need to grow great plants.

Cypress Hammocks

Then, pursued by cypress hammock stand fire-eaters, jugglers, jesters and stilt-walkers (all notably absent in 1588), she will make her way two miles to Parsonage Common, where next day she will again review her troops - this time accompanied by a display of jousting. As Thurrock, on the one hand, and Plymouth, Tavistock, Totnes and most of the rest of Devon on the other - with Effingham somewhere in the middle - fight out their good-nature battle for supremacy, however, the plot is nicely thickened by an entirely separate project, Fire over England, which enables just about every other bit of the country to get in on the occasion.

How Much Should You Pay For Garden Furniture?

November 19, 2007 on 8:40 pm | By admin | In Home :: Gardening

What use is a patio or decking without the right furniture to finish is off? We’ve all seen, and probably owned the classic bargain basement plastic table and chairs. In some cases this may be perfectly simple but personally, after going to the effort of creating a patio I want to finish it with some class. Garden furniture is available in all kinds of designs from teak, to beech, to cast iron. The list goes on. The trick is matching the material to suit what’s already in your garden.
